Waupaca man charged with stalking

Suspect spent five years in prison

Richard J. Dahl, 50, Waupaca, is charged with felony staling as a repeat offender.

He is currently in the Waupaca County jail on a $10,000 cash bond.

According to the criminal complaint, Dahl attempted multiple times to gain entry into a woman’s home in the town of Dayton.

The woman told Waupaca County Detective Sgt. Pete Kraeger that an unidentified man first came to her home uninvited and unannounced between 3-4 p.m. July 17.

He knocked on her door, but she did not answer because he “creeped her out,” the complaint says.

She said the man, later identified as Dahl, rode a loud motorcycle.

Dahl allegedly returned to her home after 10 p.m. on Aug. 22.

Neighbors reported seeing Dahl park his motorcycle by the woman’s property, then walk around her home, pulling on the doors.

The woman said she hid in the basement as he tried to gain entry.

Shortly after 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 26, the woman was walking past her picture window when she heard the sound of a motorcycle, then saw the man across the street.

Deputies arrived after 911 was called.

When he was arrested, Dahl said he was trying to contact the woman because he was looking for “odd jobs” and had been unable to contact her at any other time.

Although Dahl claimed to know the woman, she denied knowing him at all.

Prior record

On April 5, 2016, Waupaca County Judge Vicki Clussman sentenced Dahl to five years in state prison and five years of extended supervision.

Dahl was convicted of a felony child sex crime and felony intimidation of a victim, threatening force.

Dahl was accused of threatening a teenage girl via Facebook the night before he was scheduled for sentencing on the sex crime.

On Feb. 9, 2021, Dahl was released from prison.
