Bartel wins fourth CWC title

Runners compete at conference meets

Abby Bartel has competed in four Central Wisconsin Conference cross country meets for Weyauwega-Fremont High School.

Her latest championship came Oct. 14 at Standing Rocks County Park, as the senior won her fourth CWC title with a time of 19:28.3, more than a minute faster than second-place finisher Saige Peterson of Amherst. Weyauwega-Fremont’s Melanie Jentsch placed sixth in 21:18.7.

Bartel wasn’t the only area runner to win a championship, as Iola-Scandinavia’s Charlie Vater won the boys’ race in 17:17.3.

Central Wisconsin Conference meet

Amherst won the girls’ championship with 36 points, followed by Bonduel (57), Weyauwega-Fremont (63), Rosholt (92), Manawa (104) and Iola-Scandinavia (153).

Pacelli won the boys’ title with 45 points, followed by Iola-Scandinavia and Rosholt (93), Pittsville (130), Bonduel (141), Amherst (143), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (154), Manawa (166), Menominee Indian (167) and Weyauwega-Fremont (171).

North Eastern Conference meet

Clintonville did not field a complete boys’ team Oct. 15 at Northbrook Golf Course, but Joshua Wilson placed fifth with a time of 17:15.

Little Chute and Freedom won boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively.

Team scores for the boys were Little Chute (32), Freedom (56), Luxemburg-Casco (72), Oconto Falls (88), Wrightstown (137), Denmark (183), Fox Valley Lutheran (184) and Waupaca (197).

Team scores for the girls were Freedom (23), Little Chute (32), Fox Valley Lutheran (105), Luxemburg-Casco (125), Oconto Falls (132), Marinette (145), Waupaca (195) and Denmark (220).

Bay Conference meet

New London’s Macy Reybrock placed second in the girls’ race Oct. 16 in Seymour with a time of 19:28.8, while teammate Elsie Abba was ninth in 21:30.2.

Xavier won the girls’ championship with 38 points, followed by Shawano (54), New London (64) and West De Pere (73).

Shawano won the boys’ title with 25 points, followed by West De Pere (47), Xavier (67), Seymour (92), Green Bay East (118) and New London (155).

Fox Valley Association meet

Neenah and Kaukauna won boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, Oct. 14 at the FVA meet at Countryside Golf Club.

Team scores for the boys were Neenah (48), Kimberly (77), Appleton North (79), Fond du Lac (93), Hortonville (99), Appleton East (163), Kaukauna (177), Oshkosh West (190) and Appleton West (241).

Team scores for the girls were Kaukauna (45), Neenah (52), Appleton North (67), Kimberly (88), Oshkosh West (135), Appleton West (180), Hortonville (198), Fond du Lac (206), Appleton East (209) and Oshkosh North (285).

• Area teams will compete Saturday, Oct. 23, in various sectionals.

Weyauwega-Fremont will host Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa and other teams in a Division 3 sectional in Weyauwega. The boys’ race start at noon, followed by the girls’ race at 1 p.m.

Waupaca, New London, Clintonville and other teams will head to a Division 2 sectional that Oconto Falls will host at the Patriot Golf Club in Abrams. The boys’ race is set for 11 a.m., with the girls’ race to follow at noon.

Hortonville will head to Standing Rocks County Park for a Division 1 sectional that Stevens Point will host. The boys’ race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and the girls’ race will be held at 11:15 a.m.
