Gehrt, Robert “Bob” L.

Robert “Bob” L. Gehrt, age 94 of Embarrass, WI passed away on October 3, 2021 at The Summit in Mesa, AZ.

Bob was born on June 1, 1927 in Embarrass, to the late Walter and Leonora (Kowalkowski) Gehrt. Bob was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. He graduated from Clintonville High School. He served in the Army in WWII in the European Theatre.
On July 12, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Lois Schmidt, at Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass. Their first son Gene was born in 1948. Their second son Brad was born in 1958. During their long and happy marriage, Bob (and Lois) moved over 30 times, including living in California, Illinois, Arizona, and Wisconsin. Early in his career, he worked at the Four Wheel Drive in Clintonville and Valley Iron Works in Appleton. Some of the manufacturing plants Bob managed were Western Gear in Belmont, CA, International Gear in Chicago, IL, Mattison Machine Works in Rockford, IL, Hayssen Manufacturing in Sheboygan Falls, WI, Bemis Corporation in Ashwaubenon, WI and Modern Plastics in Green Bay, WI. For the last 32 years Bob (and Lois) enjoyed being snowbirds in Arizona. They were active members of Mountain View Lutheran Church in Apache Junction, AZ as well as Zion Lutheran Church in Embarrass, WI. Some of Bob’s interests included conversation, helping people and church activities. During his life, he was always heavily involved in his local Lutheran congregation and the Synod. He also served for many years on the Board of Regents of Concordia University in Mequon WI.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gene (Jane) Gehrt of Gold Canyon, AZ and Brad (Diane Grede) Gehrt of Ripon; three grandchildren, Kristy (Phil) Pryor and Jenny (David) Payne of Chattanooga TN and Cory (Morgan) Gehrt of Appleton; six great-grandchildren: Allie and Kelsey Payne, Zoe and Ava Pryor, and Carter Woody and Lilly Gehrt. Bob is also survived by his brother, Richard Gehrt of Wausau and numerous friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Leonora (Kowalkowski) Gehrt, his loving wife, Lois (Schmidt) Gehrt, and his brother Jim Gehrt.

Special thanks to the caretakers and management of The Summit in Mesa, Arizona who provided loving and compassionate care to Bob.

Visitation will be on Saturday October 30 at 10 a.m. followed by his funeral at 11 a.m., both at the Eberhardt Funeral Home & Crematory in Clintonville. Burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Embarrass. Meal to follow burial. The family respectfully requests that those attending wear a mask. A memorial service is also being planned in January 2022 at Mountain View Lutheran Church in Apache Junction, AZ.
