Short and not very sweet.

Those five words describe the Clintonville boys’ soccer team’s time in this year’s WIAA state tournament.

The Truckers scored an early goal, but ended up on the short end of a 5-1 score to Peshtigo Oct. 21 in a Division 4 regional semifinal at Clintonville High School.

Andrew Zeinert gave the home team a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, but it turned out to be the Truckers’ only score.

Christian Boyle tied the game less than two minutes later and Jonathan Conn converted a penalty kick that gave the Bulldogs the lead for good. Conn added a second goal before halftime and the Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead into the break.

Boyle scored his second goal seven minutes into the second half and Collin Engman wrapped up the scoring four minutes later.

Peshtigo’s season ended Oct. 23 with a shootout loss to top-seeded Sturgeon Bay in a regional final.
