Triathlon presents checks

Local organizations benefit

The return of the Waupaca Area Triathlon in August was a success, according to organizers of the event.

More than 600 athletes competed Aug. 21 in the long course (half-mile swim, 20-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run) or the short course, (1/4-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and 2-mile run).

Also, more than 200 kids ages 4-10 participated in the Kids Triathlon.

“It takes many volunteers to help with all aspects of the event,” Lynn Tolle said. “This year, volunteers from 19 organizations logged 950-plus hours to make the event happen.”

In appreciation for their help, the Waupaca Triathlon Board of Directors presented monetary donations to 21 local organizations totaling more than $9,500.

Participating organizations included Waupaca County ARES, Rotary Club of Waupaca, Waupaca International Cultural Exchange Committee, VFW Post 1037 Auxiliary, Waupaca Lions, ThedaCare Waupaca Auxiliary, Waupaca dance team, Waupaca Historical Society, Scandinavia Public Library, Boy Scout Troop 634, Waupaca High School soccer team, Humane Society of Waupaca County, Waupaca High School Honor Society, Waupaca Curling Club, Living the Waupaca Way, Waupaca Area Youth Hockey Association and Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Group.
