Craig to retire from county board

Supervisor stepping down after 25 years

Supervisor Pat Craig announced her plan to retire from the Waupaca County Board during the county budget hearing on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

Craig was first elected to the county board in 1996 to represent District 18, which is primarily Royalton, where she served as town treasurer for 46 years.

She retired as Royalton’s town treasurer in April 2021.

Prior to the county board’s vote, Craig encouraged other supervisors to support the proposed 2022 budget.

“In my 25 years of voting for Waupaca County budgets, you know that there have been a few times where I have not supported the budget presented due to the cost of specific programs,” Craig said. “I will be voting yes for this responsible budget.”

After noting that the Dec. 1 deadline for county board candidates to deliver their nomination papers, Craig said, “I want to share with you today that I have decided that I will not be seeking re-election for District 18. I’ve enjoyed my 25 years serving my citizens on the board and feel it is time for someone younger to represent District 18.

“New ideas and fresh leadership are important for good government,” Craig said. “I treasure the time I have spent representing my district, but now is the time for change.”

As part of her commitment to community service, Craig She was secretary-treasurer for the Waupaca County Towns Association Unit from 1983-1993, vice chair from 1993-2003 and chair from 2003-2013.

Craig was known for being prepared for every county board meeting she attended, often bringing prepared remarks with her.

She carefully researched the issues and knew the details of proposed budgets and ordinances before casting her vote.

Among her many committee assignments, Craig was chair of Law Enforcement and vice chair of Health and Human Services.

She was also a member of Finance, Information Technology, the Executive Committee, Emergency Management, Traffic Safety and the Outagamie-Waupaca Library Systems Board of Trustees.
