Weyauwega-Fremont wins battle of Hawks

Weyauwega-Fremont’s girls’ basketball team opened the season with a home win over Port Edwards.

The Warhawks scored the game’s first 11 points Nov. 16 and went on to a 42-19 win over Port Edwards.

Weyauwega-Fremont held the Blackhawks scoreless for the game’s first nine minutes and led 20-5 at halftime.

A 22-5 run to open the second half gave the Warhawks a 42-10 lead before the visitors closed the game with a 9-0 run.

Jayden McCoy and Olivia Witkowski led the Warhawks with 15 and 10 points, respectively, while Taylor Martin led Port Edwards with 12.

The Warhawks hosted Almond-Bancroft Nov. 22 and are scheduled to host Tri-County at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30.
