It was an opportunity for the Clintonville girls’ basketball team to make some early noise in the North Eastern Conference.

Oconto Falls had the same idea.

The teams opened conference play Nov. 23 in Clintonville and the Truckers ended up dropping a 65-39 decision to the Panthers.

Clintonville had also opened the season Nov. 18 with a 53-23 win over Antigo.

Oconto Falls 65, Clintonville 39

Clintonville hit its first three shots to take an early 6-0 lead, but the Panthers took the lead for good midway through the first half on Morgan Moynihan’s free throw that broke a 16-16 tie.

Oconto Falls took a 26-24 lead into the locker room at halftime and outscored the Truckers 39-15 in the second half.

Lauren Zwirschitz led Clintonville with 15 points, while the Panthers’ Alexis Euclide led all players with 21.

Clintonville 53, Antigo 23

Clintonville took a 25-10 halftime lead before outscoring the Red Robins 27-13 over the final 18 minutes.

Natalie Sunita and Zwirschitz led the Truckers with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Sophie Schlieve led Antigo with seven points.

The Truckers will head to Seymour Tuesday, Nov. 30, to face the Thunder before returning to North Eastern play Thursday, Dec. 2, at home against Waupaca. Tipoff for both games is set for 7 p.m.
