Manawa booster club pursues track goal

$50,000 needed by end of year

By Holly Neumann

The Manawa Athletic Club has raised just over $80,000 of the $130,000 needed to begin the rubberized track project for the Manawa School District.

Mary Griffin, the club’s secretary/treasurer, said the fundraising effort is going extremely well.

“The community and surrounding community businesses have been very supportive,” she said. “Now, we need the individual members of the community and parents to help us out as well.”

Currently, Manawa is one of two schools within the Central Wisconsin Conference that still has an asphalt track, which eliminates Little Wolf High School from hosting conference, regional and sectional track meets.

“We have new bleachers,” Griffin said. “The football field is done, so all that is left is to upgrade is our track.”

The new track would also complement the district’s fitness center, according to Griffin.

“Not only would the rubber track be better for our track students, as they are less likely to have injuries, they can practice on a track that is up to the level that they will compete on,” she said. “Plus, the public is able to use the track as well and would give a better surface to walk on.”

Anyone wishing to help with the project can mail donations to Manawa Athletic Booster Club, c/o Mary Griffin, N5993 Summit Lane, Manawa WI 54949.

A donation form has been sent home with all students as well.

The Manawa Athletic Booster Club needs to earn another $50,000 before the end of the year to begin the project in the spring of 2022.
