Lorge, David K.
David Kenneth Lorge was born on February 12, 1948, in New London to Kenneth and Marie (Pelky) Lorge Sr. He grew up in the Bear Creek area and graduated from Clintonville High School in 1966. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1968-1970. David was united in marriage on October 4, 1968, to Lily M. Strelow at St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. He was employed at Curwood in New London for over 42 years; working first in the Maintenance Department and ending up as a Quality Control Supervisor, retiring in 2010. While working at Curwood he also followed in the family painting business. David was an excellent painter and did mostly residential work for folks all around the area for many years.
David is a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek, and a current longtime member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Clintonville. He had a deep faith, a true devotion to Mary, and prayed the Rosary often. David enjoyed deer hunting, fishing from the shore for suckers or pan fish, and tending to his vegetable garden. He grew the best watermelons, squash, potatoes, pickles, and more. David was the most hardworking, down to earth, kindhearted, and generous person that you will ever meet. He was always the center of the family but “Mom was the boss!” David will be remembered most a devoted husband who loved his wife with all his heart, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lily; and eight children, Matthew Lorge, Andrew (friend Christine) Lorge, Adam (Heather) Lorge, Tasha (Greg) Sunita, Colesha (Dustin) Kabble, Creation (AJ) Mahnke, Anna Lorge, and Kayla (friend Marc) Lorge. There are 15 grandchildren: Olivia Lorge, Corbin Lorge, Barry Rhode, Daisy Lorge, Mercede Lorge, Drake Lorge, Owen Lorge, Roman Lorge, Natalie Sunita, Ele Sunita, Kennedy Sunita, Anthony Kabble, Haley Kabble, Boston Kabble, and Dominic Lorge. There are 4 great grandchildren: Azelea, October, Atreus, and Amelia. There are four sisters: Mary Theresa Rew, Wyoma Jean Clark, Lucille (Harlan) Schneidewend, and Kathleen (Steven) Kettenhoven. There are four brothers: Daniel Lorge, Dewey (Susan) Lorge, Joseph (friend Nancy Bricco-Happle) Lorge, and Kenneth “Ike” (Armandina) Lorge Jr. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Marguerita “Margie” Lorge; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter Angela; an infant sibling LaVerne; two brothers, Vernon (Debbie Mehlberg) Lorge and Dennis Lorge; a brother-in-law, James Rew; and a sister-in-law, Candy Lorge.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, December 10th at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek. Fr. Timothy Shillcox, O. Praem officiated and burial followed in the parish cemetery. Military Honors were provided by members of the VFW Post 664, American Legion Post 63, DAV Chapter 53, VFW Auxiliary Unit 664, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 63, all of Clintonville. Memorials are preferred for masses St. Mary’s or St. Rose in David’s memory.
