Downtown bakery opens

New go-to spot for cheesecake in Waupaca

By James Card

“I wanted this to feel like an old fashioned bakery,” said Vicki Brown, owner of the new Three Angels Dessert Shop located at 114 N. Main St.

She succeeded. The interior evokes a clean, brightly lit white-walled farmhouse kitchen and when paying for a dessert, the purchase is run up on an old antique National cash register. When the landline telephone rings, it comes from a wooden phone box with a rotary dial.

Brown works with her daughter Brianna and their specialty is cheesecakes. The name of the bakery, Three Angels Dessert Shop, comes from her three daughters.

“Sometimes they are not always angels,” said Brown. “But they pretty good girls.”

Besides cheesecakes they produce cupcakes, scones, cookie-dough brownies, cookies, donuts, cocoa bombs, raspberry flips and bagels. One item that has become popular is rolled ice cream, a concoction that can be eaten from a cup or can be placed in a waffle cone shell and eaten like a taco. The recipes are gluten friendly.

For drinks they serve coffee, hot chocolate, tea and also carry bottles of Twig’s, the old-school soda flavors bottled locally in Shawano.

Near the counter is an electric fireplace and a cozy seating area and on the other side of that wall is an open dining area. Brown also has a small nook of arts and crafts made from local artists and woodworkers.

Three Angels Dessert Shop also takes large orders for holiday or birthday parties or other large events.
