Shawls bring joy of season

Ministry group makes shawls

By Holly Neumann

The Pray Shawl Ministry from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Weyauwega is making a difference in the lives of many people.

Recently, prayer shawls were given to some of the residents at The Willows in Iola.

“This fills their hearts with joy, hope and goodness,” said Maureen Speck, the facility’s life enrichment coordinator.

Residents smiled as their shawls were wrapped around them.

“I think the sweet joy on their faces said it all,” Speck said. “It’s great to know the world outside cares.”

The Pray Shawl Ministry meets twice a month to work on projects and encourage one another. The group prays before, during and after the completion of each shawl in hopes of passing God’s comfort on to those who need it the most.

The shawls are made to bring comfort and to remind the recipient that they are loved.

“Every time those pray shawls are worn, it will be a reminder that good people cared enough to think of us,” Speck said. “We are truly blessed.”
