T-Birds’ train keeps rolling

Iola-Scandinavia boys now 8-0

The Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team entered 2022 with an undefeated record.

The Thunderbirds improved to 8-0 with nonconference wins over Northland Pines and Nekoosa. Iola-Scandinavia handed Northland Pines a 51-39 defeat Dec. 30 one day after returning home from Nekoosa with a 61-29 win over the Papermakers.

The Eagles held the T-Birds’ leading scorer, Parker Prahl, to two field goals, but had trouble getting their offense going and didn’t have any scorers in double figures.

Northland Pines trailed 26-12 at halftime and never got any closer than 10 points in the second half.

Isaiah Hoyord led the Thunderbirds with 16 points, while Brock Wester added 13 and Prahl finished with 12.

Griffin Stiemke and Nolan Lurvey led Northland Pines with eight points each.

I-S 61, Nekoosa 29

Prahl led all scorers with 23 points as the T-Birds outscored the home team 32-13 in the first half and 29-16 in the second.

Kaden Jueds added 11 points for Iola-Scandinavia, while Michael Ringor led Nekoosa with nine.

The T-Birds returned to Central Wisconsin Conference-East play Jan. 4 at Shiocton and will host Weyauwega-Fremont at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7.
