Wright, Glenn George

Glenn George Wright, age 79, of Lomira, WI, passed away September 2nd at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac, WI from Covid-19 complications.

Glenn was born September 5, 1941 in Primghar, IA to Wayne and Lena Wright. Glenn graduated from Sanborn, Iowa High School in 1961. He then earned a business degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. During college, Glenn was hired by Dean Oakes at A and A Coins in Iowa City. They remained lifelong friends. Glenn married Shirley Striegel in 1966. Their son Steven Wayne was born in 1967, then daughter Amy Lynn in 1970. Glenn was recruited by Krause Publications, Iola, WI in 1969. Glenn had an interest for everything numismatic. Other interests included classic cars – especially Corvettes, and antique firearms. Glenn made many friends over the years who shared his passions. Glenn and Shirley divorced in 1983. Glenn worked as an OTR truck driver for several years before buying and running a very lucrative scrap metal yard. During this time, he also ran a gold and silver business from his home. With his son Steven’s help, Glenn opened Knowles Gold and Silver in 2013 in Knowles, WI. Over the years, they attended many coin shows together. Glenn also remained very involved in collecting antique guns. Glenn’s business flourished and many more friends were made. Glenn was known for being a “straight shooter” in his business endeavors. He could also be very competitive at coin shows. At 79 years old, Glenn still had no interest in retiring.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lena Wright, brother-in-law Larry Williams and son Steven Wright. Glenn is survived by his sister Gwendolyn Williams of Malvern, IA and his daughter Amy Wright of Frederic, WI.

A Celebration of Life will be held next Spring/Summer (on a weekend without coin or gun shows scheduled!). Online condolences can be shared at www.zacherlfuneralhome.com.
