Fuhs leads Iola-Scandy over Wega-Fremont

Iola-Scandinavia kept pace with Bonduel and Amherst in the Central Wisconsin Conference-East girls’ basketball standings with a win over Weyauwega-Fremont.
The Thunderbirds played without one of their leading scorers in Jaelyn Sivertson, but were able to hold on for a 47-41 win over the Warhawks Jan. 6 in Weyauwega.
Iola-Scandinavia also handed Adams-Friendship a 56-37 nonconference loss Jan. 4.

The T-Birds never had the lead in the first half and trailed 28-26 at halftime.
Makayla Much’s three-pointer gave Iola-Scandinavia its first lead – 29-28 – early in the second half and the teams exchanged leads five more times until Madeline Much’s free throw broke a 40-40 tie with 1:42 remaining. The T-Birds then closed the game with a 6-1 run.
Lillian Fuhs led the T-Birds with 18 points, while Makayla Much and Madeline Much added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Olivia Witkowski led the Warhawks with 15 points, while Madison Hansen and Jayden McCoy added eight each.
Both teams have CWC-East games scheduled for Friday, Jan. 14. Iola-Scandinavia will head to Bonduel, while the Warhawks will host Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

Sivertson led the T-Birds with 20 points in a win over the Green Devils.
Iola-Scandinavia outscored the home team 29-17 in the first half and 27-20 over the final 18 minutes.
Madeline Much and Fuhs added 13 points each.
