Comets fall to Wrightstown

The holiday break has come and gone, which means that wrestling teams find themselves facing more conference opponents.

Four area teams – Waupaca, Manawa, Weyauwega-Fremont and New London – competed in conference dual meets Jan. 6.

Waupaca and Manawa fell to Wrightstown and Wittenberg-Birnamwood, respectively; Weyauwega-Fremont defeated Bonduel; and New London topped Green Bay United.

Wrightstown 84, Waupaca 0

One of the North Eastern Conference’s top programs turned out to be too much for the Comets, as the Tigers won all nine of the contested matches by pin.

Everett Koltz (106 pounds), Riley Verbeten (113), Kevin Biese (120), Owen Krueger (132), Nick Alexander (152), Carter Gilson (170), Sam Keuler (195), Daniel Van Eperen and Owen Garvey (285) had pins for Wrightstown.

Waupaca also forfeited matches at 126, 138, 145, 160 and 182.

W-F 45, Bonduel 33

Weyauwega-Fremont raised its Central Wisconsin Conference dual meet record to 3-0 with a win over the Bears.

The Warhawks forfeited the first three weight classes to fall behind 18-0, but stormed back to win eight of the next 11 matches.

Connor Johnson (132), Carter McDaniel (152), Cashten Hoffman (195) and Cody Steinbach (285) picked up pins for the Warhawks, while Kaleb Mannel scored a 20-3 technical fall at 138 and Alex Loehrke won a 14-4 major decision at 145.

Bonduel also forfeited matches to Isiah Schuh (126) and Vanden Hoffman (220).

New London 42, GB United 27

Wyatt Magolski (113), Zaylie Reimer (126), Eve Hedtke (138), Hailie Krueger (152) and DeEvian Ross (220) had pins for the Bulldogs.

Green Bay United also forfeited the 160-pound match to Damien Stilen.

W-F 60, Manawa 12

Manawa hosted Wittenberg-Birnamwood for a CWC meet and Valders for a nonconference meet.

Manawa’s points in the matchup with Wittenberg-Birnamwood came on Bryce Bartel’s pin at 170 and a forfeited to Gavin Linjer at 145.

Valders forfeited to Linjer (145), Dylan Spaulding (152) and Bartel (170), but picked up a 48-18 win.

Hortonville 39, Oshkosh West 37

Hortonville hosted Oshkosh West for a Fox Valley Association dual meet Jan. 4 and picked up a 39-37 win over the Wildcats.

Tristan Ellerman (106), Nolan Skebba (126), Henry Niebauer (132), Grant Harris (145) and Tage Wasmund (152) had pins for the Polar Bears, while Collin Schroeder had an 8-4 decision at 120 and Nolan Schmidt picked up an 8-0 major decision at 170.
