Donald “Don” E. Hartleben, age 89 of the Town of Deer Creek, Outagamie County, passed away Sunday morning ,January 16, 2022 at the ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah.

Donald Eugene Hartleben was born on November 26, 1932 in the Town of Morris, Shawano County near Wittenberg. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1950. Don then enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War where he spent most of his time in radio communications with the Signal Corps. Don then returned home and was united in marriage to Mickey Brugger on November 4, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Black Creek. Don worked as a lineman for Wisconsin Electric Power Company until his retirement. He also served as the Town Assessor for Deer Creek for many years. Don and Mickey enjoyed snowmobiling and spent many years western dancing with the Leather and Lace Dance Club. The couple were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bear Creek. Mickey preceded her husband in death on October 21, 2019. Don certainly had a love for nature and spent a lot of time in his woods and taking care of his property. He looked forward to deer hunting season every year and in earlier years enjoyed rabbit hunting with his beagles. Don was as sharp as they come when it came to a good game of Sheepshead. He was also a member of the Clintonville VFW Post #664 and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include: his children: Marty (Alyce) Hartleben, Lori Mackowiak, Jay (Connie) Hartleben, Lisa (Andrew) Olsen, Kelly (Kathy Engelbreth) Hartleben, and Penny Hartleben; grandchildren: Henry Hartleben, Samantha (Lucas Moeller) Hartleben, AJ Mackowiak, Keith Hartleben, Lexi and Myka Olsen, Noah Hartleben, Scott (Ashlea) St. John, and Josh Chambers; great-grandchildren: Brenden and Kaiden St. John and Indigo Mae Hartleben; siblings, Ardell Vercauteren and Gerald Hartleben; a sister-in-law, Lois Hartleben. Also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mickey, a son-in-law Mike Mackowiak, and a brother Leroy “Bud” Hartleben.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Don on Friday January 21, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek with Fr. Timothy Shillcox O. Praem officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. No formal receiving line will be formed during the visitation. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors provided by members of the Clintonville VFW Post #664, American Legion Post #63, DAV Chapter #53, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit #63. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory of Clintonville is assisting his family. www.eberhardtstevenson.com
