Waupaca girls drop home game

By Greg Seubert

For a while, it looked like the Waupaca girls’ basketball team was well on its way to the Comets’ first win of the season.

Not so fast.

Clintonville used a 22-1 in the second half Jan. 17 to post a 41-20 North Eastern Conference win at Waupaca High School.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Truckers after they also dropped recent games to Menasha and Wrightstown.

Clintonville 41, Waupaca 20

Waupaca trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but closed the half with a 7-2 run and trailed 17-12 at the break.

Maci Studzinski’s free throw cut the Truckers’ lead to 19-15 early in the second half, but Clintonville scored 22 of the game’s next 23 points to go up 41-16.

Emily Taylor and Lauren Zwirschitz led the Truckers with 15 and 12 points, respectively, while Rachel Thobaben led Waupaca with five points.

Menasha 69, Clintonville 12

The Bluejays held the Truckers to three points in the second half Jan. 14 in a rescheduled nonconference game.

Menasha led 31-9 at halftime.

Gracie Poole led the Truckers with five points, while Menasha’s Mara Rieder led all players with 26.

Wrightstown 69, Clintonville 27

The Tigers held the Truckers to 17 points in the first half and 10 in the second half.

Taylor led Clintonville with nine points and Samantha Kiel led Wrightstown with 17.

Waupaca and Clintonville will hit the road Thursday, Jan. 20, for conference games. Waupaca will travel to Little Chute, while Clintonville will head to Oconto Falls.
