Waupaca High School stages whodunit

Comedy features audience participation

The Waupaca High School Drama Department will present “The Plot, Like Gravy, Thickens,” a comic murder mystery written by Billy St. John.

The play will be staged at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30.at the Waupaca High School Performing Arts Center.

A group of interesting characters comes together on a stormy evening to celebrate multimillionaire Edward Worthington’s 50th birthday.

When the lights go out and Edward’s life comes to a screeching halt, these characters, including Edward’s beautiful wife, his bitter ex-wife, a shady lawyer, an uptight business manager, his sweet, southern secretary, and others, all claim innocence.

The play will be sure to thrill with great storm effects, cool lighting, and a guy who plays three characters, according to Monica Reeves, Waupaca High School drama teacher and director.

“Audience participation will be encouraged as each suspect will be questioned by the local lieutenant,” said Reeves.

Co-directing with Reeves is Waupaca Middle School teacher Amy Holterman. Other adults in the production staff include Sean Baldwin, lighting design; Russ Reeves, set design and construction; Hank Holterman, sound engineer and graphic designer; Joni Radley and Kathy Hammond on keyboard, and Jenny Lewis, hair design.

The student cast includes Gabe Klug, Hannah Holterman, Isaiah Knueppel, Gracie Lewis,Sophia Holterman, Nate Anderson, Hannah Verstagen, Tyler Smidt, Madeline Bassette, Chloe Marquette, Olivia Higginson, Emily Schubert, Aiden Rollins, Calysta Richards, and Elisha Schmidt-Niemuth.
