City approves revaluation funding

Clintonville estimates cost at $100,000

The city of Clintonville plans to conduct a revaluation of properties before the state forces it to do so.

To pay for the revaluation, the Clintonville City Council designated $100,000 from the city’s unassigned funds when it met Jan. 11.

Finance meeting

At the Jan. 10 Finance Committee meeting, committee member Jim Supanich said the city has not had a revaluation since 2008. He added that if the city doesn’t do a property revaluation within three years, the state will step in and require the city to do it.

The city originally estimated a revaluation would cost around $70,000, but now estimates it will cost around $100,000.

“We have sufficient funds in the city’s unassigned fund, to cover this $100,000,” Supanich said.

He recommended that the council designate $100,000 from the undesignated city funds, and earmark it for the property revaluation.

“We might want to consider starting it (revaluation) this year,” Supanich said.

Finance Committee Chair Mike Hankins added, “With any kind of thing like this with timelines, you certainly want to be in the middle or front end of that, and not pushing the deadline, in case you hit some snag or something.”
