It didn’t take long for Lizzie Steingraber to make her presence felt in the New London girls’ basketball team’s Bay Conference matchup with West De Pere.

The Bulldogs’ leading scorer went down with a knee injury in the game’s opening minute Jan. 18 and New London ended up falling to the Phantoms 63-58.

New London trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half before cutting West De Pere’s lead to 31-26 at the break on Macy Reybrock’s buzzer-beating basket.

A pair of free throws from Paeton Kringel with just over 13 minutes remaining in the game brought the Bulldogs to within one point at 35-34, but the Phantoms scored the next 13 points to go up 48-34.

New London was able to cut the lead to four points twice in the final 1:30, but couldn’t get any closer.

Kringel led all scorers with 24 points and teammate Jensen Mix also finished in double figures with 10, while Faith Walder and Imani Ninham led West De Pere with 16 and 15, respectively.
