Construction to close Clintonville schools

No electricity available Feb. 2

By Bert Lehman

There will be no school in Clintonville on Feb. 2 due to a planned electrical shutdown for Clintonville High School and the Rec Center.

The closure is due to the current construction project taking place in the district.

Parents in the district were informed about the no-school day in a Jan. 21 letter from Superintendent Troy Kuhn.

“As we near the midpoint of construction at the new middle school/high school facility, there must be major upgrades and connections to the facilities. One of these major connections will be the integration and connection of power/electricity,” Kuhn stated in the letter.

In addition, the entire district will be offline because the district’s technology and network is controlled through the high school.

“The district will be without internet, phone service, and many other essential services to safely have a normal school day,” Kuhn said.

Kuhn added, “Therefore, February 2nd will be considered a ‘snow day,’ and all Clintonville students and staff will not have school. All staff, unless given special permission, are to not report to school this day. We are taking additional precautions and having a proper shutdown of important electronic equipment, which includes the district servers. In addition, we are having maintenance and engineering staff on site just in case things do not start or reboot correctly.”

Power is scheduled to be restored by 4 p.m. on Feb. 2. The district’s essential systems will be rebooted when power is restored, followed by running final diagnostics.

After-school activities scheduled for Feb. 2 are still scheduled to occur. The rec center is also scheduled to open at 4 p.m. that day.

Dellwood Daycare will be open the entire day, but its internet, phone services, and automatic door unlocks will not be operable.

Kuhn said he has spoken with representatives from the St. Martin and St. Rose schools, and those schools will have a normal school day on Feb. 2. Buses will run for the St. Martin and St. Rose students.

“We are extremely sorry for this inconvenience,” Kuhn said. “We intend to only have one day loss, and not multiple days by rushing the contractors/workers and by taking necessary precautionary measures.”
