Anklam, Marvin G.

Marvin G. Anklam, 74, passed away after an eight-year battle with liver cancer.

He was born July 17, 1947 in Waupaca, son of the late Gilbert and Marie (Christensen) Anklam. Marvin married Kathryn Marsh on June 19, 1968 in Hawaii, while he was on R &R from Vietnam. Marv was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served proudly for two years. In 1968 he served in Vietnam with the 1st Air Cavalry Division, as a combat medic. Marv worked for 46 years in the paper industry as a Millwright and Pipefitter, at Gilbert Paper, and retired from George Whiting Paper Company, Menasha in 2011. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Neenah, for over 58 years. He served on the Altar Guild, where his specialty was sharpening pencils. Marv enjoyed fishing and mounting fish for his grandkids, nieces, and nephews. After his retirement, Marv wanted to see if he could get good at something before he died and started beekeeping. Other than getting stung, he enjoyed it, especially sharing the honey and syrup with his family, friends, and his medical care team. He also enjoyed helping his best friend, Joe Oyler, preserving his garden produce. Marv volunteered his time and talents at Aves Wildlife Alliance, Neenah, a few hours a week, where his specialty was cleaning up rat and raptor poop. After Marv was diagnosed with Cancer, a bucket list was started, to make memories. Thanks to family and friends, a few of those memories were made. At the top of the list was a trip to Alaska, fishing for Salmon on the Kenai River with his grandson. Standing at the “on-deck” circle at Wrigley Field with his friends was cool. Also pretty cool, was doing the Polar Plunge. One item on the list was illegal, and another was in the early planning stage. His greatest enjoyment came from time spent with his family, especially his grandkids, who he cared for greatly.

Marv is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Kathie; three children: David (Dianne), Neenah, Ann (Bob) Taake, Neenah, and Deb (Jerry) Cooley, Oshkosh; four grandchildren: Sabrina Anklam, Michael Becker, Akira Cooley, and Gwen Cooley; sister, Patti (Joe) Hutchinson, Plymouth, MA; and three brothers: Lynn (Joan), Kaukauna; Chris (Veronica), St. Mary’s, GA; and Tim (Mica), El Paso, TX.

Memorial service for Marv will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 809 S Commercial St, Neenah, with Rev. Jon Strasman officiating.
