Clintonville grad joins Wisconsin Singers

UW performers to stage local concert

The Wisconsin Singers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will return to the stage at Clintonville High School at 7 p.m. Friday March 4.

A 2020 Clintonville High School graduate will be among those performing with the Wisconsin Singers.

Emma Zwirschitz, a geology major at the UW-Madison, is in her first year as a singer and dancer with the Singers.

She talked about what it took to be a member of the professional college entertainment ensemble. “My journey with Singers began three long years ago when I first saw them perform here as a high school student,” Zwirschitz said.

Besides the thrill of seeing the Singers perform, Zwirschitz said the most meaningful part was the experience of participating in their free clinic on the day of the show, and then the opportunity to perform on stage that evening with the Singers as their first production number.

“The first thing I did to kickstart my first year as a Singers was to audition to be in the troupe at the end of last May,” Zwirschitz said.

She explained that each year the previous year’s members and those, like herself, wishing to become a member of the troupe go through an extensive audition process to exhibit their talent and to show their commitment to a demanding year as a member of the Singers.
“After summer workshops, three straight weeks of production camp in August, and a fall semester of Sunday rehearsals, I am now proud to be able to present ‘Come Alive!’ to all of you,” she said.

“Come Alive!’

‘Come Alive!’ presents a revue of the past 40 years of American pop music.

It is a fast-paced, 90-minute performance showcasing explosive song and dance, big band sound, Badger spirit and humor.

The show features more than 40 songs by well-known artists from Elton John and Lady Gaga to Elvis Presley and the Four Seasons.

Songs from “Frozen,” “Peter Pan,” and some superhero cartoons will be performed for the kids.

The Wisconsin Singers band will showcase its blend of jazz, funk, and classic rock with hits like Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life” to “Go Daddy-O” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

Also included is music from the Wisconsin Badgers’ “Fifth Quarter.”

The show Is directed, choreographed, and arranged by professional artists, such as Jerry Kember, Broadway actresses Kate Sarner, Michael Stanek, and freelance composer Taras Nahirniak.
