Season ends in regional semifinal

The season has ended for the Weyauwega-Fremont boys’ basketball team.

The Warhawks fell to Stratford 71-50 in a Division 4 regional semifinal March 4 after opening tournament play March 1 with a 67-50 win over Nekoosa.

Stratford 71, W-F 50

A big second half lifted the Tigers to the win.

Stratford headed to the locker room at halftime with a 27-25 lead before outscoring the Warhawks 44-25 over the final 18 minutes.

Stratford went on to win a regional championship March 5 with a 56-45 win over Marathon and will face top-seeded Iola-Scandinavia Thursday, March 10, in a sectional semifinal.

W-F 67, Nekoosa 50

The Warhawks outscored the Papermakers 30-14 in the first half and 37-36 in the second.

Jaden Rice and Quinn Dittmann led the Warhawks with 17 points each, while Mike Ringer and Jaden Hughes scored 15 points each to lead Nekoosa.

The Warhawks ended the season with a 12-14 record.
