‘Old Hollywood’ theme of April 2 event

By Holly Neumann

Old Hollywood in the theme for the 2022 Adult Prom, which will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, April 2, at Silver Lake Lanes in Scandinavia.

“Every generation will have their idea of what ‘old’ means,” said Connie Trinkner, who helps organize the event. “We hope to capture and see multiple generations’ interpretations.”

Trinkner said the event is fun because not many people have a chance to get fancied up.

“Many people remember back to their high school proms and want to relive some of the fun or get a do-over,” she said. “Some never attended a prom and now is there chance. It’s a low-pressure night out to be kind of silly and just have fun. Adults can use more of that.”

The Scandinavia Booster Club holds the free event, which will also include 50/50 raffles, champagne Jell-O shots, popcorn, drink specials and more.

“The raffles, shots and popcorn sales are how we pay for the event,” Trinkner said. “Other proceeds from the event help our local communities and the Scandinavia Corn Roast.”

A Business Booster Raffle will be held for the first time.

“There are 14 participating businesses,” Trinkner said. “Spend at least $5 at participating businesses in Iola and Scandinavia to receive stamps toward the 50/50 raffle. It is $5 to register each golden ticket. Receive one entry per stamp received and register tickets by 8 p.m. at Silver Lake Lanes. The winner will be announced at 8:30 p.m. and you must be present to win.”

Participants can visit the Scandinavia Booster Club’s Facebook for participating businesses.

People can come dressed for a prom, in a costume or in daily attire, Trinkner said.

“It’s amazing to see the range of dresses, suits, and costumes each year,” she said. “It’s a great use of old bridesmaid dresses, borrowing prom dresses and suits from family members and pulling prom dresses out from 30 years ago. Goodwill and other local thrift shops have second-hand dresses and suits that people can purchase for the event.”

A dollar dance will determine the Prom King and Queen.

“Anyone wanting to be king or queen can participate,” Trinkner said. “The man and woman who raise the most money for the Scandinavia Booster Club during the Dollar Dance are crowned.”
Crowning will take place at 9 p.m.

JoJo’s Little Norway will host a Post-Prom event from 10 p.m. to closing, with food and drink specials.

“The Adult Prom and the other events put on by the Scandinavia Booster Club could not be possible without the hard work and dedication of many volunteers,” Trinkner said. “It is rewarding to see folks show up at our events, having fun and enjoying our community. Thank you to all who help and attend. This is why we do this.”
