McGlone, Frederick enter transfer portal

By Greg Seubert

Two Hortonville High School graduates will suit up for different college basketball teams for the upcoming season.

Macy McGlone and Shay Frederick recently entered the college basketball transfer portal.

McGlone played two seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, while Frederick spent four seasons at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana.

McGlone appeared in all 30 games for UW-Milwaukee this past season, including one start.

She also appeared in 19 games off the bench as a freshman and finished the season with 32 points, 30 rebounds and five blocks.

McGlone will join current Hortonville senior Lyric Johnson at Eastern Illinois University to play for coach Matt Bollant.

Current Hortonville girls’ basketball coach Celeste Ratka played under Bollant at UW-Green Bay.

“Macy was chosen as the top post player for the state of Wisconsin coming out of high school,” Bollant said. “She has been really well coached, she has an amazing motor and she’s going to be a difference maker right away for our program. She played for Celeste Ratka, who is one of the best high school coaches in the country.”

Meanwhile, Frederick has yet to land with a new team after 3 1/2 seasons as a starter at Valparaiso. She has one remaining year of eligibility.

She averaged a team-high 12.1 points per game during the regular season and ranks second all-time at the school with 490 assists. She also cracked the program’s career top-10 chart in scoring and ranks fourth all-time in free throws made and fifth in made three-pointers.
