Polar Bears win FVA games

Hortonville baseball team tops Kaukauna twice

Fox Valley Association wins are starting to add up for the Hortonville baseball team.

The Polar Bears won their fifth straight FVA game May 9 with a 13-6 win over Kaukauna at Commercial Club Park.

Hortonville also defeated Kaukauna 8-4 May 6 and picked up a 12-0 win over Neenah May 5.

Hortonville 13, Kaukauna 6

Nathan Vela’s three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning gave the Polar Bears the lead for good after the Ghosts scored once in the top of the inning.

The Polar Bears added five runs in the second inning, two in the third and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Vela had three hits and drove in four runs, while Camden Kuhnke, Hayden Timm, Turner Kuhnke and Jack Coenen added two hits each and Cole Krause had a solo home run. Sam Dodd allowed four hits and three runs over five innings to get the win on the mound while striking out eight batters.

Hortonville 8, Kaukauna 4

The Ghosts scored all four of their runs in the first inning before Hortonville tied the game with three runs in the second and one in the fifth.

The teams headed into the sixth inning tied at 4-4, but Hortonville came up with four runs while holding the Ghosts scoreless over the final two innings.

Vela, Coenen, Timm, Kolden Hunter and Camden Kuhnke each had two of the Polar Bears’ 12 hits, while Vela got the win on the mound.

Hortonville 12, Neenah 0

Winning pitcher Thomas Burns held the Rockets to two hits over six innings and finished with 12 strikeouts.

Vela had three hits, while Camden Kuhnke and Easton Plachetka had two each. Timm drove in three runs and Burns drove in two.

The Polar Bears hosted Appleton West May 11, hosted Fond du Lac May 12 and will wrap up the week Friday, May 13, by hosting Oshkosh West at 5 p.m.
