Katie Boerst has submitted her letter of resignation from the Manawa Police Department.

Boerst has been with the department since October 2017 and was recently appointed as the department’s interim police chief following the retirement of James Gorman.

She has been offered a job opportunity in another community.

“This is an opportunity that works best for myself and my family in the future,” Boerst wrote in a letter to city officials. “I have very much enjoyed the opportunity to serve and protect the people of Manawa.”

Boerst will help with the transition of her workload and responsibilities to whomever is able to step in and fill her position.

“I have had a suitable law enforcement officer offer their assistance in continuing the interim chief position after my departure,” Boerst wrote. “They are skilled and very knowledgeable in the field, as well as a good supervisor. I can provide further information upon request if the city decides to pursue this option.”

Her last day with the department is Tuesday, May 31.
