Russell Wilbur Cartwright Jr., age 85 of New London, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at ThedaCare Neenah following multiple health complications.
Russell was born on April 10, 1937 in New London to the late Russell and Lorraine (Fermanich) Cartwright Sr.. He graduated from New London with the class of 1955 and went on to serve for 8 years in the US Army Reserves, working his way up to a Master Sergeant. Russell was united in marriage to Carol Petri on August 28, 1965 in Seymour. He lived and farmed in the Sugar Bush area until his retirement in 1998. He loved camping, deer hunting at the “up north” deer camp, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, waterskiing and watching Nascar, but especially spending time with family and friends. Russell was active in a waterskiing club at Bear Lake, also serving his community as treasurer for NFO, and serving as a board member for New London Co-op for many years, as well as president. He was a founding member of the Sugar Bush Drifters Snowmobile Club, also serving as a past president.
Russell is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Scott (Jackie) Cartwright, Cindy (James) Steger, Brenda (Aaron) Brunet and Brian Cartwright (significant other, Stacie Zwick); grandchildren, Paul (fiancée, Haley), Chad, Kelli, Katelyn, Wesley (fiancée, Katie), Austin, Abbigale, Nicole, Tylyn, Allison and Sheyanne; great-grandson, Colton; his siblings, Daniel (Melanie) Cartwright and Robert Cartwright and his niece, Crystal. He is further survived by his beloved dog, Molly.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Wendy and brother, John.
The Memorial Service for Russell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bear Creek with Fr. Tim Shillcox officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
