Stuart Stotts to perform in Manawa

Sturm Memorial Library’s summer reading program will get underway Thursday, June 9, with a performance by award-winning children’s singer and storyteller Stuart Stotts.

He will perform at the Manawa library at 2 p.m. The program is for people of all ages and is free.

Stotts is known nationally for his educational programs and delivers keynote performances to educators around the world. His high-energy programs get the crowd moving, shaking, and singing, making it impossible for anyone to sit still.

His performance highlights the start of the library’s eight-week summer reading program, which began June 6 and continues through July 29. The program is designed to keep youth reading and engaged with their library through the summer.

The main portion of the program is reading and logging reading activity using the Beanstack app or online program. This resource, designed by educators, rewards readers with fun digital badges which in turn become drawing slips for special grand prize baskets.

Beanstack is easy to use and very handy for parents who have more than one child in the program. The reading portion of the program is open to all ages, including adults. Last year, over 150 people of all ages participated in Manawa’s reading program.

In addition to Beanstack and the two programs mentioned above, the library will host other programs for children and teens, as well as weekly activities, crafts and games.

Research has proven that kids who keep reading over the summer retain their language and reading skills needed to succeed in the next school year. Libraries across the country promote reading and engagement to keep reading fun and rewarding.

Call Sturm Memorial Library at 920-596-2252, visit www.manawalibrary.org or check out the library’s Facebook or Instagram pages under Sturm Memorial Library for more information about the summer program.

Brochures with a complete schedule of events were sent home with each student in the Manawa School District and are also available at the library.
