The Waupaca County SWAT team responded to an armed standoff Monday, June 27, in Clintonville.

At 7:20 p.m. Clintonville police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance complaint on the 100 block of North Main Street.

When they arrived at the scene, officers made contact with family members who said a 32-year-old man inside the house was intoxicated and possibly armed.

The suspect allegedly made comments about not going back to prison.

Police attempted to contact the man over the phone, however he would not comply with law enforcement commands.

A witness told the Clintonville Tribune-Gazette that police established a perimeter from 16th Street north to 20th Street. Main Street and Anne Street, one block east of the incident, were closed down.

Nearby residents were told to remain in their homes.

Clintonville police requested assistance from the Waupaca County SWAT team at 10:25 p.m.

At 12:47 p.m. the suspect was taken into custody and booked into the jail on a Department of Corrections warrant.

According to Clintonville Police Chief Craig Freitag, charges will be forwarded to the Waupaca County district attorney’s office.

Clintonville police were assisted at the scene by the Marion police, the Waupaca County sheriff’s deputies, Clintonville Area Ambulance Service, Clintonville Fire Department and Compassionate Connections.
