Brown, Duane

Duane “Dewey” Robert Brown, age 93 of New London, entered his room in God’s mansion on Monday, July 4, 2022. 

Duane was born at home to the late Andy and Lydia (Breitenfeldt) on December 13, 1928, weighing less then two pounds at birth.  With a strong will to live, he was able to enjoy God’s appointed 93 years.  He was united in marriage to Faith Rudie on October 23, 1954, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sugar Bush.  She was a partner in his personal and professional life. Faith preceded him in death in 2020. He served his country in the US Army. Duane was a life long member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London, where for many years he served as an usher and also assisted St. Joseph residents to chapel services on Mondays.  He served on the church property committee and also as the president of the Emanuel Lutheran School Board.  For twenty six years, Duane represented American Family Insurance in New London, retiring in 1991.  He very much enjoyed taking care of his clients.  Duane served as Waupaca County Board chairman from 1990 to 2004, the longest time anybody had held that position.  He served in various other areas of the community, such as, American Legion Post 263, VFW Post 2732, New London Lions Club, and New London Boy’s League. Duane was an avid Packer, Brewer and Brave’s fan, having played on the New London Merchants team as well as several softball teams. He served his country in the US Army.

Duane is survived by his son, Robert Brown (Sandy Kopitzke); grandchildren, Tonya (Majed) Alamoudi and Andrew (Rose) Brohnson; step-grandchildren, Amanda (Adam) Collar and Kristy Shostak; great-grandchildren, Dylan Liska, Dexter and Darwin Brohnson, Aubree, Aiden and Amara Collar and Malakhi Shostak; great-great-grandchildren, Myles Kuhnke and Elias and Evelynn McDonough; brother, Marlin (Shirley) Brown; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Rudie and June Kaepernick and brother-in-law, Iver (Daine) Rudie

Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Faith; his parents; brother, Louis (Betty) Brown; brothers-in-law, Sterling Rudie, David Rudie and Leslie Rudie and sister-in-law, Betty Jensen.

The memorial service for Duane will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London with Rev. William Heiges officiating.  Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery, New London, where full military honors will be held.
