JV Clippers win 17U regional

New London’s 17U junior varsity American Legion baseball team is heading to state.

The Clippers won a regional tournament held July 15-17 at Hatten Stadium and will now take on the Appleton DoubleDays at 4 p.m. Friday, July 22, in the opening round of the Wisconsin American Legion 17U State Tournament at Memorial Park in Plover.

New London joined Plover, Hortonville, Fond du Lac and Oshkosh for the double-elimination regional in New London.

The Clippers headed into the tournament with an 11-4 record and didn’t lose a game.

New London opened the regional with a 3-2 win over Fond du Lac July 15 before advancing to the winners’ bracket with a 7-5 win over Hortonville July 16.

New London wrapped up the regional championship July 17 with an 8-3 win over Hortonville.

Other first-round games in Plover scheduled for July 22 include the Region 6 champion vs. Sheboygan at 10 a.m., the Region 1 champion vs. Little Chute at 1 p.m. and the Region 7 champion vs. Plover at 7 p.m.

The tournament will continue July 23-25, with the championship game to be played at 5 p.m. or 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 26.
