Organization’s projects protect natural habitat

The New London Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will hold its 45th annual fundraising banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Crystal Falls Banquet Hall.

Activities will include dinner, raffles, silent auction and a verbal auction.

Dozens of guns will be available to win, and door prizes will be given away. Special items include shotguns, rifles, pistols, special DU items and Green Bay Packer items.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m.

The cost is $65 per person; a sponsorship opportunity is also available for $275.

Funds from these banquets are used to conserve, restore and manage wetlands for waterfowl and other species of wildlife that use the marshes and wetlands as part of their annual life cycle needs.

State and local projects

To date, Ducks Unlimited projects in Wisconsin include:

•144,416 acres conserved;

•100,000 plus acres provided technical assistance;

•$44 Million plus spent on conservation projects.

In addition to providing breeding habitat for waterfowl, these projects provide spawning habitat critical for walleye and sturgeon in the Lake Winnebago and Wolf River systems and act as natural filters for sediment and pollutants that would severely limit the natural productivity of the Wolf River.

“These projects are large scale and expensive, but the benefits are worth the investment,” said DU Regional Director Chris Anderson.
