Pulaski spoiled the home opener for the Hortonville football team Aug. 26 by handing the Polar Bears a 21-16 loss.

Hortonville took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter on Gavin Vallner’s 2-yard run and Colin Wendt’s 27-yard field goal.

The Polar Bears’ next drive resulted in points for the Raiders, as Pulaski blocked a punt and Brock Steinbecher recovered the ball in the end zone that cut Hortonville’ lead to 10-7.

Pulaski took the lead for good in the third quarter on Logan Schultz’s 7-yard pass to Aidan McDougal and the Raiders added to their lead later in the quarter on Maverick Cole’s 8-yard run.

Broden Butzin’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Winston Peters in the fourth quarter made it 21-16, but the Polar Bears never got any closer.

Butzin completed 11 of 22 passes for 164 yards and Vallner led the Polar Bears’ rushers with 69 yards.

Hortonville will open Valley Football Association play Friday, Sept. 2, at Stevens Point. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
