Warhawks off to 2-0 start

Zielke leads Weyauwega-Fremont over Rosholt

Kameron Zielke had three rushing touchdowns and threw for two other scores as Weyauwega-Fremont’s football team improved to 2-0 with a 48-6 win over Rosholt.

All eight of the game’s touchdowns came in the first half. Brayden Arndt opened the scoring for the Warhawks less than two minutes into the game with a 78-yard run.

Cashten Hoffman added an 8-yard run, Hunter Meisenhelder returned an interception for a score and Zielke hooked up with a 34-yard touchdown pass as Weyauwega-Fremont took a 28-0 lead into the second quarter.

Zielke had touchdown runs of 7, 30 and 15 yards in the second quarter before Rosholt got on the scoreboard on Alex Wierzba’s 45-yard pass to Ethan Stroud.

The Warhawks had 259 rushing yards that included 83 from Hoffman, 78 from Arndt and 70 from Zielke. Meanwhile, Weyauwega-Fremont’s defense held the Hornets to minus-13 rushing yards. Nicholas Huebner had three catches for a team-high 62 yards as Zielke completed five of eight passes for 107 yards.

The Warhawks will open their Central Wisconsin Conference-Large schedule by hosting Nekoosa at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2.
