I-S hosts cross country meet

Vater wins second race

Winneconne and Freedom won boys’ and girls’ championships, respectively, Aug. 30 at the Thunderbird Invitational cross country meet at the Iola Winter Sports Club complex.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Charlie Vater won his second straight race, as he crossed the finish line in 16:04.1 to win the boys’ race.

Winneconne’s boys’ team placed first with 48 points, followed by Pacelli (58), Freedom (109), Amherst (131), St. Mary Catholic (208), Pittsville (215), Seymour (222), Iola-Scandinavia (245), Weyauwega-Fremont (260), Rosholt (265), Menominee Indian (267), Oconto (289), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (324), Bonduel (334), Lomira (335) and Manawa (351).

Iola-Scandinavia’s other places and times included Will Meier (35th, 19:53.6); Ian Koss (39th, 20:07); Aaron Jones (88th, 22:08.8); Alek Rogalla (126th, 24:55.6); Mason Jarosh (127th, 24:57.7); and Riley Gambsky (150th, 29:28.2).

Jaden Rice placed 11th in 18:20.1 to lead Weyauwega-Fremont. Other places and times for the Warhawks included Isiah Schuh (42nd, 20:15.2); Brent Munoz (62nd, 21:01.5); Seth Malueg (83rd, 21:53.8); Parker Scherg (87th, 22:03.4); Luke Ehrenberg (101st, 22:43.2); and Kole Schwirtz (149th, 28:56.7).

Manawa’s runners included Ricky Pingel (50th, 20:29.5; Matthew Thoma (65th, 21:04.7); Justin Buschke (67th, 21:11.3); Keither Jepson (110th, 23:31.5); Noah Bortle (112th, 23:37.2); and Ted Emmert (119th, 24:30.3).

Clintonville did not have a full team. Mason Carrico placed 26th for the Truckers in 19:22.8 and Logan Swinford placed 120th in 24:35.1.
Team scores for the girls were Freedom (51), Winneconne (70), Bonduel (118), St. Mary Catholic (138), Weyauwega-Fremont (150), Amherst (184), Suring (212), Rosholt (234), Manawa (237), Lomira (240), Oconto (266), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (291), Providence Academy (300), Pittsville (354), Iola-Scandinavia (368) and Tri-County (395).

Weyauwega-Fremont had three runners in the top 20, including Melanie Jentsch (13th, 21:59.7); Emma Ziepke (16th, 22:34.1); and Calla Benjamin (18th, 22:40.8). Other places and times for the Warhawks included Madison Hansen (30th, 23:48.5); Rio Hildebrandt (89th, 28:56.6); and Emma Hansen (106th, 30:42.3).

Manawa’s places and times included Julie Jaeger (20th, 22:42.7); Marilyn Klatt (24th, 23:00); Alecia Weber (67th, 27:08.4); Ellie Stroesenreuther (81st, 28:24.3); Daisy Krueger (83rd, 28:28.6); and Brooke Krueger (123rd, 32:19.2).

Iola-Scandinavia’s runners included Chloe Timdal (70th, 27:12.3); Grace Betker (71st, 27:25.7); Paige Timdal (97th, 29:42.5); Abby Isermann (102nd, 30:01.5); Ruby Koch (113th, 31:17.6); and Kelly Jones (116th, 31:42.9).

Elektra Fields placed 77th in 27:55.2 for Clintonville.
