Weyauwega-Fremont notches fourth win

Big plays added up to a big win for the Weyauwega-Fremont football team.

The Warhawks are the only undefeated team in the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large following a 42-7 win over Spencer/Columbus Catholic Sept. 9 in Spencer.

Three of Weyauwega-Fremont’s six touchdowns came on plays of more than 60 yards.

The Warhawks recovered a fumble on the opening drive and found the end zone less than two minutes into the game on Kameron Zielke’s 20-yard pass to Hunter Meisenhelder.

The Rockets answered with Sullivan Melander’s 5-yard touchdown run later in the first quarter, but that turned out to be the team’s only score of the game.

Cashten Hoffman’s 64-yard touchdown run with 1:49 remaining in the first half gave the Warhawks a 14-7 halftime lead and Weyauwega-Fremont added to its lead with four scores in the second half.

Zielke connected with Brayden Arndt for a 29-yard touchdown pass a minute into the second half and Zielke’s 69-yard pass to Hoffman gave the Warhawks a 28-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Arndt scored 22 seconds into the fourth quarter on a 62-yard run and Hoffman wrapped up the scoring with a 25-yard run.

Weyauwega-Fremont had a 348-335 advantage in yards. Zielke completed 10 of 14 passes for 180 yards, while Hoffman led the Warhawks with 93 rushing yards.

The Rockets gained 309 yards on the ground, as Melander led all rushers with 130 yards and Kyle Nieman added 101.

Weyauwega-Fremont will host Shiocton for Parents’ Night on Friday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
