Jonscher, Jane Ann Voigt

Jane Ann Voigt Jonscher, age 95, passed away at ThedaCare in Waupaca following a brief illness.

She was born May 4, 1927 at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah to the late Vern M. and Mae A. (Hart) Voigt. Throughout her life she lived in Neenah, but more recently resided at Park Vista Assisted Living in Waupaca.

Jane held various jobs as a teenager, from babysitting to house cleaning for 25 cents an hour. She also worked at Murphy’s Dairy as a clerk, and with her father at Marathon Paper Corp. in Menasha.

As a junior in high school, Jane had enough credits to allow her to leave early and attend St. Vincent Hospital and School of Nursing in Billings, Montana. While there, she joined the United States Cadet Nursing Corp and was able to return home for her 1945 Neenah High School graduation and walk across the stage in full military dress uniform. She then returned to Billings where she earned her nursing RN degree in 1947.

Jane met her future husband Werner “John” Jonscher while on a double date over cokes at Bert’s Restaurant and Candy Store in downtown Neenah. They were married on November 29, 1947 at First United Methodist Church, Neenah, Wisconsin.

In 1947 Jane started her nursing career working for Dr. O’Brien in Menasha as his office nurse. She moved on to doing private duty nursing for a family in Neenah and then in 1949 she started her career that lasted 35 years as the night nursing supervisor at Theda Clark Regional Medical Center.

Jane was also a member and volunteer of the Neenah-Menasha Chapter of the American Red Cross for over 50 years. She and her husband were volunteers for the Neenah Historical Society doing odd jobs that needed to be done, including being the mailing committee. Jane and Werner, together, volunteered at the Neenah-Menasha Boys and Girls Brigade where Jane was the camp nurse on Onaway Island for 13 years. She would tell you that the best volunteer job she ever had was working in the gift shop at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum and accumulating her large collection of paper weights that she was very proud of. Jane also held many “Volunteer of the Year” awards; one in 1988 from Neenah Kiwanis, and two in 1998, one from First United Methodist Church and the other from the American Red Cross Neenah-Menasha Chapter.

In her free time, Jane enjoyed getting together every Thursday afternoon for the past 60 years with Dorothy, Marge, Char, Ruth, Jan, and those who passed before her, to play dominos. It seemed the “swear word” jar was always being passed around the table with the money being donated to a local charity. Jane truly enjoyed knitting or crocheting blankets for the family and in the last years helping Creative Caring Hearts of Waupaca fill a need for new baby blankets.

Her devotion to her family and friends will be greatly missed. She made sure that everyone received a birthday or anniversary card, even if they were a little late. Christmas will not be the same without her famous popcorn balls and the large boxes of cookies. She leaves behind her children: John E. (Ellen) Jonscher, Estero, FL and Port Clinton, OH; Mary Jo (John) Feldmann, Waupaca; and Penny (John) Jonscher-Kipp, New Market, TN; her grandchildren: Mark (Jamie) Jonscher, Medina, OH; Stacey (Mike) Kelley, O’Fallon, MO; Terri (Nate) Stallings, Medina, OH; Brian (Kristine) Feldmann, Green Bay; and Becky (Keith) Buell, Green Bay; as well as by her great-grandchildren: Jaxon and Tristan Jonscher; Sydney and Sophia Kelley; and Zoe, Rose, and Gwen Stallings. She is further survived by her brother, Tom (Diane) Voigt and their sons, Gerald (Sheri) Voigt; as well as his children and their families: Chris (Brittany) Voigt; Mike (Shelley) Voigt; and Andrew Voigt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Werner in 2013, and by his parents Alfred and Auguste Jonscher.

The family would like to thank the staff at ThedaCare Waupaca for the compassion, care and support you showed us while mom was in the hospital.
We would also like to thank the staff at Park Vista Assisted Living in Waupaca who embraced her into their family with loving care for the past year.

A very special thank you to her granddaughter Becky for helping with her grandmother’s care this past year.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for First United Methodist Church in Neenah towards the restoration of the stained-glass windows, or donations can be made to Creative Caring Hearts in Waupaca, or to a charity of your choice.

A memorial service for Jane will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at First United Methodist Church, 108 W. Doty Ave, Neenah, with Rev. Rebecca Henry officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of service. Jane will be laid to rest alongside Werner at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
