Adams, Betty

Betty Bea Adams, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Park Vista – The Legacy in Waupaca, WI, where she lived the last three years.

Betty was born at home along with her identical twin Beatrice on June 26, 1941 to Mel and Hilda (Peters) Berto in Amherst, WI. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was active in their youth group. Betty graduated from Amherst High School.

She worked at Zwicker’s Knitting Mill in Waupaca and enjoyed archery. Betty and her family would vacation and hunt deer at the family cabin in Eagle River. She met her future husband, Eugene (Gene) Adams, in an archery competition in Waupaca, and together they were members of the King Archers Archery Club.

Betty and Gene married December 5, 1959 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. They made their home in the Waupaca area and raised two daughters, Cindy and DeAnn “Dee”. Betty always had beautiful flower gardens which she tended to and enjoyed. For several years they had a farmette with a huge vegetable garden, pigs, chickens, and rabbits. Betty and Gene are members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Betty enjoyed being in the church’s quilting group and loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, bird watching, dogs, raising their two girls, and later visiting and playing games with her precious grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years Gene Adams of Waupaca; two daughters Cindy (Kurt) Schoenwetter of Mount Horeb and Dee (Jerry) Gaska of Columbus; a sister Mildred “Millie” (Norm) Derick of Hawthorne; sister-in-law Bette Adams of Waupaca; grandchildren Jenny (Bill) Paulson, Jason (Esther) Gaska, Jessie Gaska, and Adam Schoenwetter; a great-granddaughter Miriam Gaska; niece Kathy Derick; nephew Ken (Jess) Derick; as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister Beatrice Berto; brother Melville Berto, Jr; parents Hilda and Mel Berto; in-laws Lily and Earl Adams; grandparents Rose and James Berto, Emil and Emma Peters; and many other relatives and friends.

Betty’s family would like to thank Park Vista – The Legacy and Hospice for all of their loving care of her. Betty was a gentle, kindhearted woman and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service for Betty will be on Saturday, October 15th, 2022 at 12:00 Noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Reverend Andy Behrendt will officiate. A visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the church. Burial will be at Rural Cemetery in the Town of Dayton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to Trinity Lutheran Church, 206 E. Badger Street, Waupaca, WI 54981 or to Park Vista – The Legacy, 1403 Churchill Street, Waupaca, WI 54981. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
