Clintonville youth recognized for community project

Bryson Kautz, with Troop 28, Christus Lutheran Church, earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

This is the highest rank that can be earned in the Boy Scouts of America, and is completed by less than 4% of all Boy Scouts. A Court of Honor was held for Kautz on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Christus Church Parish Hall, and attended by several current and former Boy Scouts, family members and members of the Community.

Through the years, Kautz progressed from Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos and eventually the Boy Scouts, where he earned 25 total Merit badges, the Arrow of Light award, and Order of the Arrow.

For his Eagle Project, Kautz completed a life jacket loaner station, sponsored in part by the Wisconsin DNR.

The station is currently located at the Ice House Boat Landing, on the corner of 12th and Hemlock streets, in Clintonville.

The life jackets are available for anyone who may have forgotten their life jacket while boating or fishing near the water, and are sized for both children and adults.

There are approximately 20 to 25 life jackets in the station. There is no charge to use the jackets but they should be returned to the station.

80 hours

Kautz dedicated more than 80 hours to complete his life jacket loaner station, which included purchasing the materials, cutting the materials, painting the wood, and assembling the sign, hooks, and roof to the life jacket loaner station.

He assisted and supervised his fellow Boy Scouts in the design-and-build phase of the project, as well as overseeing the quality of work completed by the Boy Scouts in the troop.

Kautz appreciated the work of his fellow Boy Scouts, his Scoutmaster Bill Zeinert, and assistants in leadership positions over the years including Steve Shelton, Larry Shauger, Dan Scherschel, Derek Meyer and the Christus Brotherhood for all their years of sponsorship of Troop 28.

The Clintonville School District, DNR, city of Clintonville Park and Rec Department, Torborg’s Lumber and Clintonville Motors provided financial contributions and other assistance on completing this Eagle project.
