Virnig, Nancy

Nancy (Anderson) Virnig (88) peacefully passed away on October 1, 2022 surrounded by family in Waupaca, WI.

Born Dec 9th 1933 in Minneapolis MN, Nancy attended West High School and later graduated from modeling school. She was married to Dale Virnig in 1955. They had two children, Jody and Christian Virnig.

Nancy moved around a lot in her adult life. While having many jobs, she always made a home for her family wherever they lived. She could do anything she set her mind to and was strong physically at 100 pounds (She called it her fighting weight) but also in spirit. She was most proud of being the Register in Probate with Waupaca County for 25 years. She was also an alderperson for the City of Waupaca for two years. After retiring, she moved back to Minneapolis to help take care of her parents. There, she worked as a TSA agent and finally in her 70s, worked for her favorite store Daytons/Macys. Nancy and Dale were partners in love and life, and together they enjoyed traveling to many destinations over the years. She was tireless in her role of partner, mother, and helping others. Nancy and Dale loved a good laugh, musicals, and shared a love of books. Nancy loved politics, maps, Frank Sinatra, her Ferragamo’s, and a good sale. Family and friends were very important to her. She was the historian of the family after her mother died.

She is preceded in death by husband Dale, parents Gordon and Caroline Anderson, sister Joann Drossel and infant brother James Anderson. She is survived by children Jody Virnig, Christian (Patricia) Virnig, Brothers Roger (Donna) Anderson and Don Anderson, her dog Coco Channel, many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was Grandmother to Maguerite and Jason La Ven, and Ryan Kohlmann. Great Grandmother to Carter and Evan Kohlmann.

Nancy will be buried at Fort Snelling, reunited with Dale in soul and body. We will have a celebration of life at a time yet to be determined in Minnesota. Many thanks to the Bethany Home staff in Waupaca, WI for taking wonderful care of Nancy the last year of her life. Also Patricia (daughter-in-law) who helped Nancy almost every day. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Alzheimer’s Foundation, Bethany Home, or a charity of your choice.
