Waupaca school referendum passes

Evers, Johnson re-elected in 2022 midterm election

Preliminary tallies indicate that voters approved the Waupaca school referendum in Tuesday’s election.

On the question whether the Waupaca School District should pay $3.87 million for safety and security upgrades district-wide, the vote was 4,852 yes and 2,020 no.

Gov. Tony Evers was re-elected to a second term with 1,355,409 (51.2%) votes against Republican challenger Tim Michels who garnered 1,265,846 votes (47.8%). As of Wednesday morning, 99% of the votes have been counted in Wisconsin.

In Waupaca County, Michels received 14,936 votes and Evers 7,984 votes.

The Associated Press has not called the election as of Wednesday morning, but U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson seems to have been re-elected to a third term.

With 99% of the statewide vote tallied, Johnson received 1,334,670 (50.5%) votes against Democratic challenger, former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes who garnered 1,307,296 (49.5%).

In Waupaca County, Johnson garnered 15,521 votes and Barnes received 7,647.

U.S, Rep. Mike Gallagher won re-election with 233,779 votes. Independent candidate Paul Boucher garnered 48,717 votes, while Libertarian Jacob VandenPlas drew 30,021.

As of Tuesday morning, 70% of the total votes cast have been reported in the 8th District.

In Waupaca County, Gallagher received 17,158 votes, Boucher received 3,244 and VandenPlas 1,511.

With 99% of the vote counted, Secretary of State Doug La Follette narrowly leads Republican challenger Amy Loudenbeck with 1,265,099 votes (48.3%) to 1,258,516 votes (48%).

In the race for state treasurer, Republican John Leiber is ahead of Democrat Aaron Richardson. Leiber has attracted 1,291,055 votes (49.7%) to 1,251,830 votes (48.1%) for Richardson.
