Kurt L. Popp, age 63 of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday morning, November 10, 2022, in Appleton, following a sudden cardiac event.
Kurt was born in Shawano on September 29, 1959, a son of Marvin and Judith “Judi” (Larsen) Popp. He began his education in Shawano, then attended school in Shiocton before returning to Shawano for his senior year of high school, graduating with the Class of 1977. Following high school, Kurt attended UW-Oshkosh for two years. At that point he returned home to help run the family business, Popp’s Place. He then moved to Kiel and worked at Heysen Manufacturing in Sheboygan for almost ten years.
On August 7, 1990, Kurt purchased Popp’s Lake Aire Supper Club which he owned and operated until 2011. On November 9, 1991, he was united in marriage to the former Becky Arndt in Big Falls. Kurt was presently employed at the Radisson Hotel in Green Bay. His hobbies included fishing and golfing. Kurt was a wonderful grandfather, and enjoyed the time he spent with his entire family. He was a committed son, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his children, Ryan (Linsey) Popp of Shawano and Lauren (Jayce Hinkfuss) Popp of Clintonville; his parents, Marvin and Judi Popp of Shawano; four grandchildren, Caleb and Calvin Popp and Brooks and Scarlett Hinkfuss; two sisters, Cheryl (Michael) Waters of Smyrna Beach, FL, and Justine “Tina” (Todd Meyers) Schley of Embarrass; his brother, Erik (Mandy) Popp; nieces and nephews, Justin Krysheski, Kirstie Berger, Ashley Hess, Nicholas Hess, and Brayen Boivin; and his ex-wife, Becky of Big Falls. Kurt was preceded in death by his brother, Greg Popp, in 1983; his grandparents, Walter and Sybil Popp, Bernice Marquardt, and Carl Larsen.
A funeral service for Kurt will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Deacon James Lonick will officiate. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 11:00 am and continue until the time of service.
