Thoma, Joanne

Joanne Thoma, age 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 7, 2022.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 20, 1939, to John and Christine Marecek. She was baptized into the Christian faith at Saints Peter and Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL, and then united in marriage to Douglas Thoma on October 7, 1961. She received her nursing license in 1961 from Mercy School of Nursing, Oshkosh. Afterwards, she worked as a registered nurse at Clintonville Hospital for several years. Joanne was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She was very involved in the Saturday and Sunday school programs over the years at Grace Lutheran Church, Sugar Bush, and WELS Lutherans for Life. In addition, she served as volunteer school nurse as well as 4H sewing leader for many years.
Joanne is survived by her children, Dawn (Tom) Crain, New London; Denise (Bill) Skewes, Madison; Margo Thoma, Monona; Phil (Christine) Thoma, Oconomowoc; and Ben Thoma, New London; grandchildren, Jena (Bryan) Macpherson, Karlee (Austyn) Walbruck, Kelly (Jake) Borth, Heidi Skewes, Beckett and Gavin Thoma; great grandchildren, Lilly, Emellia, Luci and Allidya Macpherson, Ayvah Walbruck; sister Violet and brother in law Edward Broschka, Hinsdale, IL and in-laws Wilfred and Karen Grieser, Cambridge, Bob Dailey, New London, Tom and Glenna Bleck, New London, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Marecek, husband Douglas Thoma and sister Eleanor Hastings as well as brothers-in-law, John Hastings, Steve Thoma, and sisters-in-law Kaylene Dailey and Judi Thoma.

Our family has been so blessed to have had such a loving, Christian mother whose love and memory will be treasured and cherished in our hearts always. We rejoice in the promises and hope that our faith in Jesus offers to all of us. And we can be so thankful for all that Jesus has done for us!

Funeral services for Joanne will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sugar Bush with Rev. Kenneth Rodrigue officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15 from 4-7 p.m. at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home, New London and also at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Ruckdashel Cemetery, Town of Lebanon following the service.
