Wrestling teams compete at scramble

Manawa’s Botting places second

Three area wrestlers had top-three finishes Dec. 3 at the John Roberts Scramble in Antigo.

Manawa’s Cash Botting placed second at 126 pounds and Waupaca’s Jayl Azuara and Owen Hansen placed third at 113 and 170, respectively.

Manawa, Clintonville and Waupaca placed 12th, 13th and 14th at the 19-team tournament.

Shiocton won the meet with 444.5 points, followed by Marathon (351), Hayward/Northwood (296.5), Abbotsford/Colby (250), Lakeland/Mercer (238.5), Valders (209), Ashland (160.5), Wabeno/Laona/Three Lakes (143.5), Antigo (140), Crivitz (136), Cameron (131.5), Manawa (124), Clintonville (104), Waupaca (94), West De Pere (93), Rhinelander (83), Rosholt (76), Menominee Indian (66) and Athens (53).

Other area wrestlers competing at the meet included Waupaca’s Nate Sherman (sixth, 103), Matt Schmidt (126), Noah Crane (138) and Bowe Bessette (10th, 145); Clintonville’s Eli Kendl and Zander Schroeder (160), Trysten Krueger (182), Caleb Moore (10th, 220), Owen Hertel (eighth, 285) and Parker Phillips (16th, 285); and Manawa’s Kayden Knapp (120), Bryce Bartel (182) and Landon Smith (seventh, 220).
