Prahl, Merrold

Merrold Leroy Prahl, age 88, of Waupaca, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at his home.

He was born on February 27, 1934 in rural Weyauwega, WI, son of Emil and Ethel (Cady) Prahl. On July 6, 1957, he married Mary Nelsen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI.

Merrold was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a Firefighter/Security Officer for the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI for 30 years, retiring in February 1990. Merrold was a member of the American Legion Post 161 and very active in the Boy Scouts in King, WI in the 1970s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and going to engine shows throughout Wisconsin with friends.

Merrold is survived by his loving wife, Mary Prahl of Waupaca; one son Mark (Carol) Prahl of DeForest, WI; one granddaughter Alexandra (Jerry O’Donnell) Prahl of Washington, DC; one brother Dennis Prahl of Appleton, WI; one sister Bonnie (Keith) Schoenick of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters Norma (Lewis) Drobnick, Geraldine (Joe) Hecht and Carol (George) Vogel; and one brother Merlyn (Joyce) Prahl.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with Reverend Andy Behrendt officiating, followed by full military honors. Friends and family may call on Tuesday, December 27th from 9:30 am until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial of his cremains will be in the Spring of 2023 at Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
