Weyauwega-Fremont’s wrestling team is on a roll.

The Warhawks won the Manawa Invitational Jan. 7 and also picked up a pair of Central Wisconsin Conference dual meet wins over Menominee Indian and Manawa Jan. 5.

Manawa Invitational

Weyauwega-Fremont had four individual champions and won the 10-team tournament.

The Warhawks finished with 205 points, followed Oconto (166.5), Waupaca (132.5), Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol (128), Mishicot (118.5), Crivitz (111), Suring/Gillett (81.5), Manawa (60), Elcho (31) and Montello (11).

The team’s championships came from Riley Scherg (106), Alex Loehrke (145), Aiden Marquette (152) and Vanden Hoffman (285). Hoffman improved to 23-1 on the season and was also named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.

Isiah Schuh and Tellyer Alix placed second at 138 and 195, respectively; Caden Meisenhelder (160) and Jared Bohringer (182) finished third; and Parker Scherg (113) and Nolan Schrei (170) placed fourth.

“All 11 boys won at least two matches and also recorded 26 pins, twice as many as the second best team,” coach Tim Potratz said. “This was a nice team effort. The kids wrestled aggressively, went after pins and kept up their intensity all day. It was a lot of fun.”

Waupaca sent a pair of wrestlers to the finals.

JJ Azuara placed first at 113 and Owen Hansen placed second at 170.

Manawa’s Cash Botting also won the 126-pound championship.
