Andrea Muench pulled off a rare academic feat: she graduated from college with zero student loans. She paid her way through school through massage.

“As I was getting my bachelor’s degree I went to massage school because everybody said I had a gift for massage and I had a gift with my hands,” said Muench.

Originally enrolled at the University of South Florida-Tampa to be marine biologist, she later changed gears into TV journalism. She graduated with a degree in cultural and public communications but massage therapy was always the constant in her life.

“It stuck. Massage therapy has been my passion. I’ve been doing it for 20 years and I’d like to do it for another 20 years,” she said.

A Weyauwega-Fremont High School graduate, Muench settled back in her home state of Wisconsin.

She and two other professionals opened Peaceful Escape Spa at 315 Burton Rd, Suite 103 in New London. She partnered with Rachel Mulroy, another licensed massage therapist and Lara Kistenmacher, a licensed esthetician. They previously worked together for many years at Wholistic Health in New London before it was sold.

Kaitlyn Johnson recently joined their team as another licensed esthetician.

Each of them has their own business within the Peaceful Escape Spa. Muench runs Peaceful Escape Massage Therapy (they used the same name for their business collective). Her specialties are sports, prenatal, deep tissue, therapeutic, hot stone and Swedish massages, along with a number of other therapies.

Mulroy runs Massage by Rachel. She graduated from Fox Valley School of Massage in 2005 and has been relieving tension and sore muscles ever since.

Kistenmacher runs Faithful Skin and has been an esthetician serving the New London community for over 12 years.

Johnson, the newcomer to the team, runs Simply Skin Aesthetics and has been an esthetician for just almost two years.

They are so busy they have a waiting list. They would like to add another massage therapist in the future but they do not have enough room.

Muench points out they have cancellations and they are flexible enough to fit people into an appointment.
